Dedicated to gypsy-swing’s world capital, the album Samois-sur-Seine captures the atmosphere of the gypsy-bars and restaurants on the banks of the river Seine. Romane’s guests are some of the greatest players on the “manouche” scene: guitarists Angelo Debarre or Babik Reinhardt, and violinist Florin Niculescu. Romane also broadens his vocabulary by inviting the great classical guitarist Roland Dyens. This fifth volume in the complete works of Romane released by FrEmeaux & AssociEs provides unique testimony to the virtuosity and vitality of the gypsy-music scene, and it was recorded in the magical atmosphere of Samois, where Django Reinhardt was laid to rest.
