Ella Fitzgerald / Sarah Vaughan / Chet Baker / Miles Davis / Sonny Ro: Kurt Weill’s Songs

During the Fifties, American artists from the world of jazz and songs turned to Kurt Weill and the melodies that came from his music for the theatre, notably the future Broadway hits that he created in the USA. Thanks to those artists, Weill's songs went straight into the Great American Songbook for good, writing a new chapter that erased the Berlin/Brecht imagery usually linked to the German composer of the world-famous Threepenny Opera. Gerard Pierron: Tresors Perdus – Retrospective 1981-2013

This anthology from a discreet artisan of song has the title "Lost Treasures" (TrEsors perdus) and it completes the Gaston CoutE retrospective (FA5638) published in 2016. If poets were antiques, GErard Pierron would be an antiques hunter, as shown by his efforts to shed light on the work of such popular poets as Louis Brauquier or Allain Leprest. Perron has a unique feel for the musicality behind words, and has given us some remarkable thematic records (songs of the river Loire, the sea, the countryside, wines and people, etc.) This box set retraces the discography of an adventurer in song whose career (distinguished by several awards from France's AcadEmie Charles Cros, and praised by the media) remains off the beaten track, with treasures picked up from the by-roads and some unusual encounters. Ray Charles: In Antibes 1961, Including13 Previously Unreleased Trac

Produced by Joël Dufour, the greatest expert on the work of "The Genius" _ aka Ray Charles _ this set brings together for the first time the complete live concert that Ray performed in Antibes/Juan-les-Pins in July 1961. It was Ray Charles' first booking outside the USA _ a cult concert _ and it was destined to be the first in a lengthy series that created the long-lasting respect reserved for the artist by audiences in France. When compiling this set, Joël Dufour chose to include a large number of bonus tracks and previously unreleased material _ notably demonstrating that Ray, already a great keyboard player, was also a fantastic accompanist. This 4CD box a must-have item for every "Brother Ray" fan. Patrick FREMEAUX

Bastien Ribot: Violin Standards

Bastien Ribot, a violinist of the Didier Lockwood school, is a player hard to ignore these days. He was the co-founder of the RP Quartet, where his precise playing with the bow, in addition to the quality of his arrangement work, earned him an excellent international reputation. Here Bastien plays material originally written for jazz violin, surrounded by some of the most talented musicians in France's younger jazz generation, namely Laurent Coulondre, Gautier Garrigue, Maxime Berton and Emile MElenchon. Bastien brings the repertoire right up to date in continuing the work initiated by StEphane Grappelli, Jean-Luc Ponty and Didier Lockwood, all of them great reformers and teachers. This album writes a new chapter in jazz. Augustin BONDOUX / Patrick FREMEAUX

Nathalie Joly: Cafe Polisson – Cree Au Musee D’orsay Pour L’exposition

Recorded at Orsay Museum's Auditorium during the exhibition "Splendour and destitution, images of prostitution 1850-1910", the album CafE Polisson reminds us in song of sketches by the likes of Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas or Steinlein, and it provides a glimpse of the illegal underworld of the cafEs concerts during the Belle Epoque. Actress-singer Nathalie Joly is the greatest exponent of the genre parlE chantE, and universally recognized by critics for her immense performances of works by Yvette Guilbert (collected in the trilogy "Yvette ! Yvette ! Yvette !" (FA5679, the complete songs of Yvette Guilbert by Nathalie Joly.) This recording is a wonderful recital by a master performer, featuring material by the great writers (Bruant, Guilbert, Xanrof etc.) mingled with bawdy popular songs. These works are by turns humorous or cruel, realistic or poetic, but always coarse and daring. They echo the misery, resentment, and indeed pride, shown by these so-called "loose" women. Billy Harper: Capra Black

180 grams vinyl.
